On September 20, Puerto Rican poet Julia de Burgos will be posthumously honored by the U.S. Postal Service with the unveiling of the 26th stamp in the Literary Arts series. De Burgos–one of Puerto Rico’s most celebrated poets–was a revolutionary writer and activist who wrote more than 200 poems about such issues as love, feminism and political and personal freedom. Born in poverty in Puerto Rico, the oldest of 13 children, she moved to New York as a young woman. A samples of her work and books about her will be found in the Library catalog by doing a keyword search on her name – Julia de Burgos.
