About

The Librarian’s Brain is a place to learn about the Las Vegas – Clark County Library’s databases. We will provide updates to the databases, about new databases added to the collection, how to use them and how to select the best database to answer your questions or help with your homework. To access the databases  you will need a library card and live in the LVCCLD taxing district (except for Statewide Databases just need a library card).

The Databases can be accessed several ways.

  • Databases A-Z – This is a alphabetical list of all our databases.
  • Infoguides - Combines Databases and websites about a subject together in one place. Students and teachers will find the “Education” section especially useful.
  • Kids Databases A-Z – This is especially designed for younger students.  We have only selected databases for their reading level and subject area. It also searches only the children’s collection in the Library Catalog. Use this instead of Google and you will get your homework done faster!
  • Homework Help Website – contains selected databases and ’safe’ websites by grade level and subject area.
  • Statewide Databases – these databases are available to all residents of Nevada who have a library card from a Nevada library.
  • Look for links within the articles to individual databases.

All links above can be found on the right hand side bar of this blog.

Endorsement of databases and websites found in this blog are done by Las Vegas – Clark County Library District staff and no material gain was given for these endorsements. Recommendations are done based on the Librarian’s training and experience with the databases and websites.

  1. New Website for Kids: MEET ME AT THE CORNER Astronomy Visit to Palomar Observatory
I am a children’s author with a new website for kids called MEET ME AT THE CORNER (www.meetmeatthecorner.org), a series of free kid-friendly video podcasts for kids.

Geared to children ages 7-12, MeetMeAtTheCorner.org is a dynamic, interactive site, which encourages individual expression and participation through video submissions from children worldwide. Through these video pod casts, the site creates a community of children who learn the art of self-expression and storytelling through video. The site is free of charge.

MeetMeAtTheCorner.org currently offers more than 40 three- to four- minute episodes. Recent additions include interviews with famous artists and writers, trips to a variety of New York City historic and cultural landmarks, and introductions to unusual hobbies. New trips are added every three weeks.

I thought your readers might enjoy the current episode featuring astronomer Dennis Mammana and a virtual field trip to the Paolomar Observatory. The visit celebrates 2009 The International Year of Astronomy.

    Thank you,
